Will NEET PG 2026 Exam be Conducted in Single or Two Shifts?

NEET PG exam has usually been conducted in a single shift across various centers in India. However, due to the large number of applicants, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) sometimes considers the option of conducting the exam in two shifts. If the number of candidates is manageable, the exam is likely to be held in one shift. On the other hand, if the applications are higher than expected, the authority may decide to conduct the exam in two shifts. In such cases, the scores of both shifts are normalized to maintain fairness among candidates.

For the 2026 session, it is expected that NEET PG will be conducted in a single shift mode, as followed in most previous years. Still, the final decision will only be confirmed through the official notification released by NBEMS.

NEET PG 2026 Exam Timing and Duration

NEET PG 2026 exam will be conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) in computer-based mode, and knowing the exam timing and duration is very important for all aspirants. The exam will have a total duration of 3 hours 30 minutes (210 minutes) during which candidates must attempt 200 multiple-choice questions. In most cases, NEET PG is held in a single shift from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM.

However, if the number of candidates is very high, the exam may be conducted in two shifts, which are morning 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM and afternoon 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM. Candidates are advised to report to the exam centre at least 2 hours before the exam starts, as no entry is allowed after the reporting deadline. Proper time management during the exam is crucial, as no extra time will be provided once the timer ends.

NEET PG 2026 exam day schedule is set to ensure proper management and fairness for all candidates. On the exam day, entry to the test centre is expected to start at 7:00 AM. Candidates must carry their admit card, valid photo ID, and required documents for verification. The last entry is usually by 8:30 AM, after which no candidate will be allowed inside.

Between 8:30 AM and 8:50 AM, candidates will undergo verification, which includes biometric attendance, document checks, and seating arrangements. Important exam instructions will also be announced during this period. The exam will begin at 9:00 AM and conclude at 12:30 PM, giving candidates 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete the test. If the exam is held in two shifts, the afternoon session will take place from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
